Approx. 80km east of us in the direction of Shumen and Varna lies the today rather insignificant small town Veliki Preslav. From 893 to about 972 it was capital of the first Bulgarian empire under the name of Preslaw, which dominated the european southeast in the early Middle Ages.
Here you can visit the ruins of this important city, as well as a museum. A worthwhile trip!
